What's HMUN
Haarlem Model United Nations (HMUN) is a non-profit organisation run by students of the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem. For over twenty years, it has hosted an international conference welcoming around 600 students from all over the world.
Model United Nations is an educational simulation in which students represent countries or organisations in UN-style committees. Through debate and negotiation, participants learn about diplomacy, international relations, and global issues while developing key skills in research, public speaking, teamwork, and leadership.
During the conference, delegates lobby, draft, and amend resolutions reflecting their country’s policies. Although no real-world actions are taken, HMUN provides a valuable learning experience and a unique opportunity to form lasting international friendships.
